5787 has begun.
And as we come to the close of these opening days, I keep thinking about something from our Teshuvah 2026: 40 Days of Fasting & Prayer journey:
SOUND THE ALARM.
“Let the shofar call your heart to alertness, courage, and readiness.”
The question I want to leave with you tonight is:
WHAT MUST AWAKEN?
And this is not limited to what is around you, but what is WITHIN you.
What has God been trying to awaken in your attention?
Your obedience?
Your courage?
Your prayer?
Your compassion?
Your discernment?
Your willingness to listen?
Your readiness to move?
Sometimes the Word does not come to make us comfortable; sometimes it comes to wake us up.
The watchman watches because something matters.
The watchman listens because an instruction may be coming.
The watchman records because what God emphasizes today may need to be remembered tomorrow.
And the watchman does not sound an alarm simply because there is noise.
He must know what he is watching for.
So as we enter 5787, don’t just ask: “What do I want this year to bring?”
Ask: “Lord, what are You awakening in me?”
And then listen.
Listen beyond the noise and the fear.
Listen beyond assumption.
Listen for the Word.
Our journey of Teshuvah is not finished yet.
We are still walking toward atonement, renewed consecration, and a sealed return.
So tonight, let the shofar-call become a personal summons:
Awaken.
Be alert.
Be courageous.
Be ready.
5787 has begun.
What must awaken?
