Not every voice deserves your trust.
We live in an age overflowing with opinions, predictions, teachings, dreams, prophecies, podcasts, and social media commentary. Information has never been more abundant, yet biblical discernment has rarely been more necessary.
That is why watching must always be followed by weighing.
Scripture commands believers to examine what they hear.
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…” (1 John 4:1)
The apostle Paul instructed the church:
“Let the prophets speak… and let the others judge.” (1 Corinthians 14:29)
Even the noble Bereans refused to accept Paul’s teaching without searching the Scriptures daily to determine whether what they heard was true (Acts 17:11).
That is our model.
We do not weigh experiences against emotions.
We weigh experiences against Scripture.
We do not test Scripture by culture.
We test culture by Scripture.
God has never asked His people to abandon wisdom in pursuit of spiritual experiences. Genuine revelation will never contradict the written Word He has already given.
Discernment is not suspicion.
It is not cynicism.
It is not fault-finding.
Biblical discernment is the Spirit-enabled ability to distinguish truth from error, wisdom from folly, and God’s voice from every counterfeit.
Sometimes that process confirms what we have heard.
Sometimes it corrects us.
Sometimes it requires us to wait.
But waiting upon God’s confirmation is far safer than rushing toward our own conclusions.

The strongest watchmen are not those with the loudest voices.
