WATCH ✦ Standing on the Wall Before Speaking
Every generation has people who are eager to speak, but Scripture first calls God’s servants to watch.
When the prophet Habakkuk faced confusion, he did not rush to conclusions. He climbed higher.
“I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say unto me…” (Habakkuk 2:1)
Notice the order. Habakkuk watched before he wrote. He listened before he answered. He positioned himself where he could receive from God rather than react to circumstances.
That is the heartbeat of this ministry.
Watching is far more than observing current events. It is cultivating a posture of spiritual attentiveness. Biblical watchmen were appointed to remain alert—not only for approaching danger, but for the movements of God. They learned to distinguish between noise and truth, fear and faith, appearances and reality.
Jesus carried this same call into the New Testament.
“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour…“ (Matthew 25:13)
“Watch ye therefore, and pray always…“ (Luke 21:36)
Peter echoed the same charge:
“Be sober, be vigilant…” (1 Peter 5:8)
To watch is to remain spiritually awake while the world sleeps. It is refusing to allow distraction, deception, or discouragement to dull our spiritual senses.
But watching is never an end in itself.
The watchman who only watches becomes anxious. The disciple who watches with Christ becomes discerning.
